A kettlebell is a cast iron ball with a handle on it. Kettlebells have been used in Russia for centuries by their Olympic athletes and military. They are a great fitness tool for athletes, power lifters, martial artists, law enforcement, military, dancers, firefighters and regular men and women who just want to be in the best shape of their lives. Kettlebell training is for anyone willing to try something different (not new, just different); the implications for developing phenomenal fitness are undeniable.
When you hold a kettlebell, the weight is not distributed evenly and therefore you have to counter balance. The handle on the kettlebell makes the weight easier to hold and also adds a pulling motion, due to momentum and gravity, which you have to actively counter with tension in the muscles of your body. This makes the drill harder, more effective, and more taxing on the muscles, creating a very efficient and effective workout. It is a total body workout in much less time. Kettlebells, unlike dumbbells and machines, allow for more range of motion during the lifts to improve flexibility.
Some of the benefit of Kettlebell practice:
Serious cardio without the boredom of repetitive cardio machines. Its fun and enjoyable! Lets face it , most cardio exercise is boring. Kettlebell training is quick and enjoyable, which is why you’ll stick with it.
Increased flexibility.
They’re safe – for any age, shape or size – and a perfect solution for busy people! if you find that you’re wasting way too much of your precious time doing cardio, strength and stretching in an already overbooked schedule, kettlebells can be the solution! Because of the intensive nature, the workout duration must be kept short.
Strengthens every muscle from head-to-toe. Kettlebell training consists of whole-body movement exercises. It’s well-known that compound, whole body movements typical of kettlebell exercises are superior to machines that isolate muscles for improving muscle strength and body composition. Further, kettlebells tax the tendons and ligaments, making the joints more stable and less-susceptible to injury.
Build a lean, muscular physique. Men see that coveted wedge shape emerge as the training creates broad shoulders, defines abdominals, builds up their arms and pares down their waist. Women get the svelte, lean, firm shape that enhances the best of the female body.
Easy to learn. Movements are simple and you can start using them right away. No matter how old or out-of-shape you think you are, everyone can do it and should be doing it.
Develops core strength. Kettlebells require you to engage the core in almost every lift. Kettlebells have a reputation for strengthening your back, abs, glutes and hips like nothing else before.
Unify your body. Every lift with the kettlebell engages the entire body. Every swing, lift or press engages many joints and muscle groups forcing the body to always work as a unified whole and improves coordination.
Better posture – the real thing. Kettlebells strengthen all the muscles on the back of your body, from the calves to the back of your neck. A strong posterior chain is not only the key to increased athletic performance, but it also helps you stand up straight and effortlessly.
